2023 SANFL & TOYOTA AFL Volunteer Awards

Submissions closed at midnight 17 July 2023 (ACST).

The SANFL Community Football & TOYOTA AFL Volunteer Awards aim to highlight individuals who have provided notable voluntary service to community football in South Australia, as well as celebrate best practice in community football facility development across the state.

Awards are offered across categories that recognise administrators, coaches, officials, umpires and teachers.

The winners of each award at a state level will receive a $200 debit card e-gift, and will be nominated for the relevant TOYOTA AFL National award.

This form is for nominations for the following awards:

  • AFL Auskick Ambassador of the Year
  • Community Coach of the Year (Female & Male)
  • Community Umpire Service
  • Disability Inclusion Ambassador
  • Diversity Ambassador
  • School Teachers of the Year (Female & Male)
  • Young Community Volunteer of the Year

To be eligible for any of the awards nominees must meet Working with Children screening requirements for South Australia.

Additional criteria and eligibility for each award is as follows:

AFL Auskick Ambassador of the Year

  • Promotes NAB AFL Auskick values of fun, inclusion and enthusiasm
  • Volunteers on a consistent basis and shows excellent initiative in helping deliver awesome experiences for participants
  • Actively promotes other parents and carers to become involved in the NAB AFL Auskick community
  • Effectively communicates with relevant stakeholders including participants, other volunteers, community figures, SANFL staff

Community Coach of the Year (Female & Male)*

  • Must be an accredited member of CoachAFL in good standing
  • Must have a current coaching role in either a Head Coach, Assistant Coach or Club Coaching Coordinator/Director capacity
  • Must display and foster respect for umpires, opponents, coaches, administrators, officials, parents and spectators and be a role model for community
  • Must demonstrate sound understanding of modern coaching principles and is engaged in ongoing learning and development

Community Umpire Service

  • Must have given notable Umpiring service with an Umpire Club, League or Region (or any combination thereof) within Community Football as an umpire or umpire coach
  • Must be an ambassador for Umpiring at the Community Football level, who acts and works in the best interest of the game in general without ever bringing the game in to disrepute
  • Must provide a positive impact on Umpiring at their local level which may include Umpire membership, financial viability, new programs implemented, increasing diversity and inclusion etc
  • Is a proactive and positive contributor to both the Umpiring and Football Community

Disability Inclusion Ambassador

  • Shows leadership and innovation with the purpose of engaging more people with disability into the game
  • Mentoring of new volunteers, players and/or club members
  • Promoting a healthy club/league/program culture which provides an inclusive environment
  • Drives social change by being an advocate for people with disability

Diversity Ambassador

  • Support pathways for Multicultural and/or Indigenous participants to Play, Coach or Umpire in our game
  • Promote Australian Rules Football to Multicultural and/or Indigenous Communities, including Cultural Festivals and SANFL/AFL match day experiences
  • Provide advice around best practice to work with Multicultural and/or Indigenous groups
  • Promote a healthy Club/League culture which provides a fair, safe and inclusive environment for all

School Teachers of the Year (Female & Male)*

  • Actively promotes Australian Rules Football both on and off field within the school community
  • Uses creative initiatives to encourage diverse participation in Australian Rules Football - Playing, Umpiring, Club/Brand Engagement
  • Engages with AFL schools’ products, competitions and initiatives
  • Promotes values of inclusion, leadership, teamwork as endorsed by their School Principal
  • Actively promotes Australian Rules Football both on and off field within the school community

Young Community Volunteer of the Year

  • Must be 25 years of age (or younger) as at the date of being nominated
  • Must have given notable voluntary service with a Community Football Club, League &/or Region
  • Must be an ambassador for the game at Community Football level, who acts and works for the best interest of the game in general without ever bringing the game in to disrepute
  • Initiatives that the individual has led / advocated for to progress the game will be highly regarded – examples might include a focus on: club culture / behaviour, inclusivity, volunteer / player retention, participation growth, club sustainability, community connection etc.

*For “Female” & “Male” award categories, an individual that does not identify as either female or male can be nominated in either the “female” or “male” category (but not both). This category decision would need to be endorsed by the person being nominated.

NAVIGATING (MOVING THROUGH) THE APPLICATION FORM

On every screen (page of the form) you will find a Form Navigation contents box, this links directly to every page of the application. Click the link to jump directly to the page you want.

You can also click 'next page' or 'previous page' on the top or bottom of each page to move forward or backward through the application.

SAVING YOUR DRAFT APPLICATION

If you wish to leave a partially completed application, press 'save and close' and log out. When you log back in and click on the 'My Submissions' link at the top of the screen, you will find a list of any applications you have started or submitted. You can reopen your draft application and start where you left off.

You can also download any application, whether draft or completed, as a PDF. Click on the 'Download PDF' button located at the bottom of the last page of the application form.

SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION

You will find a Review and Submit button at the bottom of the Navigation Panel. You need to review your application before you can submit it.

Once you have reviewed your application you can submit it by clicking on 'Submit' at the top or bottom of the screen or on the navigation panel. You will not be able to submit your application until all the compulsory questions are completed and there are no validation errors.

Once you have submitted your application, no further editing or uploading of support materials is possible.

When you submit your application, you will receive a confirmation email with a copy of your submitted application attached. This will be sent to the email you used to register.

If you do not receive a confirmation of submission email then you should presume that your submission has NOT been submitted.

Hint: also check the email hasn't landed in your spam or junk email folder.

ATTACHMENTS AND SUPPORT DOCUMENTS

You may need to upload/submit attachments to support your application. This is very simple, but requires you to have the documents saved on your computer, or on a storage device.

You need to allow enough time for each file to upload before trying to attach another file. Files can be up to 25MB each; however, we do recommend trying to keep files to a maximum of 5MB – the larger the file, the longer the upload time.

COMPLETING AN APPLICATION IN A GROUP/TEAM

A number of people can work on an application using the same log in details as long as only one person is working at a time. Ensure you save as you go.

SPELL CHECK

Most internet browsers (including Firefox v2.0 and above; Safari; and Google Chrome) have spell checking facilities built in – you can switch this function on or off by adjusting your browser settings.
